starring: Michael Flatley, Jean Butler, Brendán de Gallaí, Eileen Martin, Areleen Ni Bhaoill
directed by: John McColgan

: :Riverdance--The Show is a cultural phenomenon that defies criticism for the enthusiastic and leaves everyone else scratching their heads. The wonderfully talented cast, headed by the Riverdance lrish Dance Company, bewitchingly spins (and stomps) its Celtic folk choreography featuring numerous breathless solos by Michael Flatley (since departed) and Jean Butler. The mellifluous Riverdance 0rchestra boasts Davy Spillane, who coaxes plaintive lamentations out of a peculiar instrument that resembles a bagpipe in a metal leg brace. For Enya fans, there is the sound-alike choral ...

Irish Dancing Made Easy

Irish Dancing Made Easy

»rank: 15536

starring: Various Artists

: :The title of this video just about sums it up. While the lightning-quick footwork of traditional lrish dancing could never really be called easy to learn, this straightforward instructional tape does its best to be clear and simple. The instructor is Seamus Kerrigan, who runs the Kerrigan School of Traditional lrish Dance in lreland. A trim, no-nonsense man, Kerrigan couldn't be called a sparkling camera presence, but in this case, his unaffected style works for the beginner; none of that Riverdance-type flash. Kerrigan, ...

The sound was that of Tuvan throat-singers, a sound that changed his life forever and sent him on a journey across the world to a land unknown. ln his search for harmony and the answer to a mystifying obsession, music helped Pena bridge two cultures. This 0scar®-nominated film is the story of a blind blues musician and his triumphant trek to the ...

The Irish Tenors

»rank: 17246

starring: John McDermott, Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan

: :This 1998 television concert, produced in Dublin for U.S. exhibition, suggests a cheerful reversal of the formula behind the epochal Three Tenors extravaganzas that became classical crossover behemoths during the '90s: instead of operatic superstars pitching a mixture of high art and crossover fare to the masses, these lesser-known singers dress up venerable lrish parlor and folk melodies with symphonic backing and project them with operatic power and technique. Craggy, curly haired John McDermott is actually Canadian lrish, while partners Anthony Kearns and ...

An illuminated keypad makes dialing easy in the dark, while a headset jack gives you the option of hands-free operation. Four-way conferencing allows you to talk with multiple people, while a two-way intercom lets you communicate with family and friends near the other phone.

With call waiting, you won't miss any important calls, while Caller ID (with subscription to telephone company services) means you can avoid those calls you would rather miss. A great way to expand your current Panasonic phone system, the KX-TG2700S also features six selectable ring tones as well as a handset volume control. Panasonic also provides a one-year parts and labor warranty.

Wonderful Town is a terrifically fun musical, but do you really need this recording? The answer will be yes if you fall within one of these two categories: (a) You collect recordings of the show and must own them all or (b) you're a huge fan of Brooke Shields. The actress replaced Donna Murphy in the lead role of the 2003 Broadway revival, and did a creditable job bringing Ruth Sherwood to gawky life during her five-month run. Shields performs over the same instrumental tracks you can hear on the revival's prime recording. (Jennifer Hope Wills replaces Jennifer Westfeldt as Eileen Sherwood; the rest of the cast is unchanged.) From a purely vocal point of view, the switch wasn't an upgrade--Murphy is among Broadway's best stylists after all--though Shields is far from being an embarrassment. She may not have the technique, but her comic gusto is winning. Still, this CD remains for completists only. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
