Saturday Night Live - Christmas

»rank: 9080

starring: Christopher Guest, Robert Smigel
directed by: Christopher Guest, Robert Smigel, Robert Altman, Paul Thomas Anderson, Albert Brooks

: :The best Christmas material from two-and-a-half decades of Saturday Night Live is collected in this video, which gets off to a raucous start by presenting Chevy Chase's (literally) unbalanced rendition of President Gerald Ford decorating the White House Christmas tree. A number of memorable Christmas satires appear, including Eddie Murphy's spoof of Mr. Rodgers, Ana Gasteyer appearing in the 'Martha Stewart Topless Christmas Special,' and even Adam Sandler's 'Hanukkah Song.' Some of the best material is from the show's early freewheeling years: a classic ...

: :lt seems inevitable: a program of Barney and the kids just singing, without the usual story lines. Barney, B.J., and Baby Bop tackle 'Look Through the Window,' 'Brushing My Teeth,' 'Marching Song,' and 'Here, Kitty Kitty.' A perfect episode for those little kids hooked on the show's tunes. --Tom Keogh

starring: Chris Elliott, Bob Elliott, Bo Sharon, Robin Riker, Earl Boen
directed by: David Mirkin, David Steinberg, Dwayne Hickman, Peter Baldwin, Tony Dow

: :Whenever a new network gets a start, some weird things make it onto the air. That's the only possible explanation for Get a Life, Chris Elliott's short-lived series in which he starred as a thirtysomething paperboy, Chris Peterson, who still lived at home with his folks. (His dad, strangely enough, was played by Chris's real-life father, Bob Elliott, a respected comedian in his own right.) The two episodes on Volume 1 exemplify what Get a Life was all about: a straight-faced spoof of ...

Sesame Street - The Alphabet Jungle Game

»rank: 6905

starring: Sesame Street

: :The sharp minds at the Children's Television Workshop have found a clever way to recycle their 'letter of the day' animated shorts and entertainingly educate the youngsters. Elmo, Zoe, and Telly--along with three kids, of course--host this delightful a-to-y cartoonathon. (The missing z is part of the 'plot.') The shorts are sandwiched between the catchy 'Alphabet Jungle' song and the mesmerizing 'African Animal Alphabet,' which should get those little couch potatoes up and boogying down to the jungle beat. Adults within earshot may ...

Beyonce's London fans go crazy when the Destiny's Child beauty, on her first solo international tour, descends to a massive stage while suspended, upside down, from a wire. After a delicate landing, the star embarks on a set of recent hits immersed in complicated arrangements, including the Arabic sound of "Baby Boy" and "Naughty Girl," the chunky, hypnotic funk of "Hip Hop Star," and Beyonce: Live at Wembley's best performance, the powerful "Work It Out," in which the diva is at her clearest, jazziest, and most soulful. Not everything works. The bottom falls out of "Gift from Virgo," "Be with You" is forgettable, and Beyonce's stage patter needs polish. But a Destiny's Child medley accompanied by only a DJ is innovative and fun, "Summertime" proves a breezy dance number, and "Crazy in Love" is bolstered by what sounds like the old Stax horns. A CD featuring a few remixes is included with the DVD. --Tom Keogh
