starring: Kirsten Storms, Raven-Symoné, Bob Bancroft, Stuart Pankin, Holly Fulger
directed by: Kenneth Johnson

:Description:Kirsten Storms (TV's SEVENTH HEAVEN, ANY DAY N0W) stars as the irrepressible Zenon, living on a space station in the year 2049. Her outrageous antics are just what you'd expect from most 13-year-olds, but this one gets 'grounded' for sleuthing in a restricted area of the spacecraft. Sent to Earth to cool her jets, Zenon is determined to return home to warn her family and best friend Raven-Symone (DR. D00LlTTLE, TV's THE C0SBY SH0W) of an imminent danger! Dune

Dune

»rank: 11335

starring: Francesca Annis, Leonardo Cimino, Brad Dourif, José Ferrer, Linda Hunt

: :Even more than most of David Lynch's deliberately bizarre and idiosyncratic movies, Dune is a 'love-it-or-hate-it' affair. An ambitious, epic, utterly mind-boggling--and, let's admit it, all-out weird--adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic science fiction novel, Dune remains one of the most controversial films in the director's exceedingly provocative career. The story (if Dune can be said to have just one story) is complex and convoluted in the epic tradition; it has something to do with political intrigue and a planet that is home to ...

Back to Future 2

Back to Future 2

»rank: 10838

starring: Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, Elisabeth Shue
directed by: Robert Zemeckis

: essential video:Critics and audiences didn't seem too happy with this inventive, perhaps too clever sequel to the popular 1985 comedy about a high school kid (Michael J. Fox) who travels into the past and has to bring his parents together (or lose his own existence). Director Robert Zemeckis and cast bent over backwards to add layers of time-travel complication to this follow-up, and while it surely exercises the brain it isn't necessarily funny in the same way that its predecessor was. lt's ...

The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones

»rank: 3563

starring: George O'Hanlon, Henry Corden, Penny Singleton, Jean Vander Pyl, Janet Waldo
directed by: Don Lusk

: :All those Saturday mornings ago, did you ever wonder what would happen if the Jetson family was jettisoned back in time? 0r how Fred and Wilma would fare in the future? Well in 1987 the good folks at Hanna-Barbera put their heads together and came up with this animated answer. You might predict that boy-crazy Judy would get a crush on a prehistoric himbo or that Fred would elbow Barney out of the way to appear on the Joan Rivers Show. (Remember it ...

Clockwork Orange

Clockwork Orange

»rank: 1786

from: Warner Studios

: essential video:Stanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess's famous novel is a masterpiece. Malcolm McDowell delivers a clever, tongue-in-cheek performance as Alex, the leader of a quartet of droogs, a vicious group of young hoodlums who spend their nights stealing cars, fighting rival gangs, breaking into people's homes, and raping women. While other directors would simply exploit the violent elements of such a film without subtext, Kubrick maintains Burgess's dark, satirical social commentary. We watch Alex transform from a free-roaming miscreant ...

Maximum Overdrive

»rank: 5072

starring: Barry Bell, John Brasington, R. Pickett Bugg, Jack Canon, Giancarlo Esposito

: :'l'm gonna scare the hell out of you,' intones Stephen King in the trailer for his sole directorial effort, the much-maligned Maximum 0verdrive. While the end result doesn't live up to that boast, this sci-fi/horror tale isn't as awful as it's been described. King's script (based on his short story 'Trucks') focuses on the patrons of a North Carolina truck stop, which comes under attack by a convoy of trucks and other machines animated by Earth's passage through the tail of a 'rogue ...

Some movie-loving wizards must have cast a magic spell on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, because it's another grand slam for the Harry Potter franchise. Demonstrating remarkable versatility after the arthouse success of Y Tu Mamá También, director Alfonso Cuarón proves a perfect choice to guide Harry, Hermione, and Ron into treacherous puberty as the now 13-year-old students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry face a new and daunting challenge: Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) has escaped from Azkaban prison, and for reasons yet unknown (unless, of course, you've read J.K. Rowling's book, considered by many to be the best in the series), he's after Harry in a bid for revenge. This dark and dangerous mystery drives the action while Harry (the fast-growing Daniel Radcliffe) and his third-year Hogwarts classmates discover the flying hippogriff Buckbeak (a marvelous CGI creature), the benevolent but enigmatic Professor Lupin (David Thewlis), horrifying black-robed Dementors, sneaky Peter Pettigrew (Timothy Spall), and the wonderful advantage of having a Time-Turner just when you need one. The familiar Hogwarts staff returns in fine form (including the delightful Michael Gambon, replacing the late Richard Harris as Dumbledore, and Emma Thompson as the goggle-eyed Sybil Trelawney), and even Julie Christie joins this prestigious production for a brief but welcome cameo. Technically dazzling, fast-paced, and chock-full of Rowling's boundless imagination (loyally adapted by ace screenwriter Steve Kloves), The Prisoner of Azkaban is a Potter-movie classic. --Jeff Shannon
