The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories

The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories

»rank: 4620

starring: Very Hungry Caterpillar

: :Eric Carle's wonderful books are among most children's favorites--and they're even better on video. Yes, the pictures are still Carle's signature collage style, a layering of painted tissue paper, and they continue to be accompanied by the simple, repetitive phrases that kids love. What animation adds is even more wonderful artwork that magically springs to life, an aural version of the sounds Carle so carefully describes in his books, and some terrific musical accompaniment. This video contains five popular stories: 'The Very Hungry ...

»rank: 1204

starring: Edgar Bergen, Milton Berle, Mel Brooks, James Coburn, Dom DeLuise

: essential video:This simply irresistible first feature from the Muppets has Kermit the frog going from the swamps to Hollywood to be a star. As he travels and picks up his usual friends (Miss Piggy, Fozzie the Bear), Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) is in pursuit, looking for Kermit to be the spokesman for his frog-leg cuisine. A loose rendition of The Wizard of 0z, the film incorporates the same cagey humor as their breakout syndicated TV series The Muppet Show. This is one ...

Hermie: A Common Caterpillar

Hermie: A Common Caterpillar

»rank: 12893

starring: Tim Conway, Don Knotts, Melissa Disney, Sam Mercurio, Wayne Powers
directed by: Demetre Gionis

:Description:So what's so bad about being a common caterpillar? Just ask Hermie-or his friend, Wormie-and they'll tell you. No splashy stripes. No stand-out spots. Not even a cool house like the snail or super-strength like the ant. Compared to the rest of God’s beautiful creation, they just feel ordinary. Unimportant. A little out of place. But God sees past their plainness, and plans an incredible surprise to show them just how special they are.Featuring the voices of Tim Conway as Hermie and Don ...

Claymation Christmas

Claymation Christmas

»rank: 5188

starring: Tim Conner, Johnny Counterfit, Greg Black, Ron Tinsley
directed by: Will Vinton

: :Tuning into Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas Celebration, it's hard to shake the feeling that the 24-minute sing-along was meant for somebody else. Just who remains a mystery throughout, but gambling viewers will come away betting on one of two equally obscure groups: either Will Vinton has cobbled together a cult following through some mysterious Claymation fan network, or--spooky though it may seem--somewhere out there exists a gang of California Raisins groupies. Considering that the Raisins have been dried up for years, the smart ...

But the trip turns into an exciting adventure when he and his best friend, Randy, who's white, are sent back in time to meet Dr. King. The story is also remarkably moving, as Matt and Randy learn what ...

Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron [Animated]

»rank: 2498

starring: Matt Damon, James Cromwell, Daniel Studi, Chopper Bernet, Jeff LeBeau
directed by: Kelly Asbury, Lorna Cook

: :Horse lovers young and old will celebrate this utterly enjoyable and marvelous-looking animated film. The titular stallion runs free in the Cimarron (New Mexico) wilderness until a series of men try to master the proud horse, leading to adventures through a U.S. Cavalry fort, Native American settlements, and a railroad camp. Despite a heavy dose of political correctness and realism (the animals don't talk; we only hear Spirit's internal monologue, voiced by Matt Damon), directors Kelly Asbury and Lorna Cook give their hero ...

Little Bill - Me and My Family

»rank: 673

starring: Doug E. Doug, Xavier Pritchett, Gregory Hines, Phylicia Rashad, Monique Beasley
directed by: Jennifer Oxley, Mark Salisbury, Olexa Hewryk, Robert Scull

: :Gap-toothed 5-year-old Little Bill radiates with the sunny realism of his creator, Bill Cosby, but a Fat Albert redux this series is not. For starters, pull the strings on each episode's tidy package and you'll find more family than friends. Little Bill's New York apartment, not the local junkyard, is the nexus of his universe and where he works the kinks out of his kindergartner's world alongside his parents, older sister and brother, and the improbably named and ingenious Alice the Great, his ...

Peanuts: Easter Beagle Charlie Brown

Peanuts: Easter Beagle Charlie Brown

»rank: 6607

starring: Jimmy Ahrens, Todd Barbee, Linda Ercoli, Melanie Kohn, Bill Melendez
directed by: Phil Roman

: :The thirteenth installment in the evergreen Charlie Brown animated series, lt's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown, is a delightful romp through the rites of spring. The running gag that holds this string of episodic misadventures together is Peppermint Patty's futile attempts at explaining how to make Easter eggs to Marcy. Highlights of this rather surreal Peanuts outing include Snoopy's dancing with little bunny rabbits inside a kaleidoscope, Sally heading to the mall to purchase a pair of platform shoes (this video was made ...

On her eighth studio album, Damita Jo--the title lifted from her middle name--Janet Jackson teams up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis once again on what is perhaps the most feverish album in her two decade long career. Whether she's taking the listener on a torrid excursion in the four song island suite, or boasting of her sexual prowess on "Sexhibition's" word games lyrics, where she tells fans "relax, it's just sex," the singer tries hard--maybe too hard--to establish herself as a sexual avatar with portfolio. But in "Strawberry Bounce," she seems more like a pole dancer in stilettos than a social revolutionary, as she catalogs the way she plans to make her inamorato lose control, and she just sounds silly on "Moist," which extols the female orgasm. Instead, the best moments on the album are when Jackson comes off as saucy and winsome instead of a heavy breather, like on the down-tempo "Thinkin' Bout My Ex," her collaboration with Babyface, which seems lifted right out of her autobiography, and on the athletic Prince clone "Just A Little While." The title track is Jackson's own version of J-Lo's "Jenny On the Block," and she sounds just as insincere as Lopez when she tried to convince us that she was just an ordinary neighborhood diva. Instead, Janet’s much more persuasive when she joins up with hip-hop savant Kanye West on "My Baby," pairing her breathy, little girl vocals to his sharp, focused rap. Then and only then does Damita Jo sound like love can actually trump sex. --Jaan Uhelszki
